Marc Jacobs is an American designer. He was born in New York City in 1963 and graduated from Parsons School of Design. At Parsons, he was the youngest designer to ever receive the CFDA’s Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. Perry Ellis is an American fashion designer whose influence on the fashion industry has been called a huge turning point, as he introduced new patterns and proportions to a market that was dominated by more traditional men’s clothing. He founded a sportswear house in the 1907s of the same name, and his importance in the fashion industry still stands. The award, and being the youngest to ever receive it, is a big deal. If that is not foreshadowing for what Marc Jacobs would become, we don’t know what is.

Jacobs founded his brand in 1984, but it was not until 1992 that he showcased his grunge collection for Perry Ellis. Two years later, in April 1994, Jacobs successfully debuted his eponymous collection, and it was all history from then. Since then, he has spearheaded countless successful ready-to-wear, handbags, fragrance, cosmetics, and book launches. His company, Marc Jacobs, opened its first store in downtown New York City in 1997. At one point, there were over 200 retail stores in 80 countries.

Marc Jacobs has many locations in North America, Europe, and Asia. Some of these stores are flagship stores named after the company, while others - such as Saks Fifth Avenue - carry the Marc Jacobs line. If you happen to live near or are visiting one of those stores, you can go inside, try on, and purchase a jacket there. For those who are not nearby or just prefer to online shop, you can order a leather jacket on their website. The U.S. website is sorted by Runway Marc Jacobs and their seasonal collections, and The Marc Jacobs, under which there are categories- bags, outerwear, and other options. They have a variety of shipping options, from Standard to Next Day, so that if you are ordering in a rush you are able to pay more and get your jacket faster. If your order is over $50, you qualify for complimentary ground shipping. While you can have a Marc Jacobs account on their website to order, you can also check out as a guest. Marc Jacobs is a fashion line that is constantly evolving and changing. While in many of our articles, we feature various jackets that we love on the site and want to go into more detail to help you shop around, it is more difficult to do that with Marc Jacobs. As a result of this, it is a little bit more difficult to go into jackets that we like and their characteristics. At the writing of this article, we found a few jackets on third party sites, such as Amazon. Price-wise, the jackets ranged from around $80 - as high up as $400. Because none of these were being sold on the Marc Jacobs site, yet it is a high price range, you should be prepared for it all. Here’s what you can expect from a Marc Jacobs leather jacket, based on what we have seen:

• The leather:Whether you are a seasoned leather lover or you are just getting into wearing that style, you have likely heard of the various kinds of leathers that are out there. We have touched upon it in previous articles, that there is more than just one leather out there and each kind feels and falls differently. The Marc Jacobs leather jackets we have seen have been 100% calf leather.
• The lining:The lining of a leather jacket can also be a lot of different things, and this has an effect on the wearing of the jacket. Is it thicker for cooler temperatures, weather, and seasons? Or is it a thinner lining that is for warmer days and a specific fashion look? In the Marc Jacobs jackets we have seen, the lining is usually viscose. Viscose is a type of rayon fiber that is made from natural sources such as wood and agricultural products that are regenerated as cellulose fiber. The material can be a little weaker than something such as cotton, especially when it gets wet.
• What about the pockets? Pockets are where you store things and they are always our friend. The pockets we have seen on Marc Jacobs leather jackets are 100% cotton.
• How about color, or custom?In our online searching, we only discovered black Marc Jacobs leather jackets and nothing about going custom. 5. Keeping it casual - When we say we believe leather jackets go with most outfits, we are serious! The big con for Marc Jacobs is more finding the jacket. Our search came up sparse, and it seems to be a matter of timing, or if you want to go on the hunt for a used jacket on a site like Poshmark. Many of us would rather have our own new jacket. We love having options and various ready-to-wear (or even custom!) options, so not having a more hearty collection of leather jackets is our major con with going with this company for that fashion need. This also means we didn’t find anything along the lines of bespoke leather jackets, which as a company that specializes in them, we love over here at Independence Brothers. The other con lies int heir customer service, which has the potential being an issue. For those reasons, if you are looking to get a leather jacket, you may want to hunt elsewhere.

We feel strongly about leather jackets here and about what they can do for you as a person.
